The Mini Coupe

This two-door, two seat coupe is the fifth and newest member of the Mini family, and when you think about it, it’s surprising that the brand didn’t produce the car sooner. After all, coupes are all about style and fun, and Mini certainly knows how to provide those two qualities in abundance.
There will be four versions of the Mini Coupe, with each one carrying the Cooper name to reflect the car’s sporting intentions.
The engine isn’t as woefully lazy at the bottom of the rev range, either, making the Coupe feel a fraction perkier. However, it’s still pretty lethargic at low revs, and even when it gets into its stride, it doesn’t have the strength of acceleration you expect from a car wearing a Cooper S badge.
With 210bhp coursing through the front wheels, you’ll frequently find the steering wheel making a bid for freedom under any sort of acceleration. This is a car that demands to be wrestled down a twisty lane, bucking and wriggling and seeking out every camber. When you can get all the power down on the road instead of madly spinning up the front wheels, the JCW Coupe is truly quick, turbo wastegate fizzing and exhaust popping on the overrun. No, it’s not the most relaxing car to drive fast, but on a good back road it’ll smear a grin across your face like few other cars.
Overall the Mini is better in the Coupe. You’re not subjected to quite as much irritating noise and vibrations as you are in, say, the Countryman Cooper SD, so things feels altogether more civilised.
