Snow is Coming! Be Careful!

The Met Office have put out weather warnings for snow which is due to cover much of the UK this weekend.

Remember......stopping distances can be up to 10 times further in ice and snow compared to dry driving conditions.

We have put together a few tips to help you through the bad weather.

  • To avoid your wheels spinning try putting your car in to second gear and easing your foot off the clutch
  • Always use a low gear and try to avoid using your brakes as much as possible when going downhill
  • Leave as much  of a gap as possible between you and the driver in front, you never know when you much just need that extra space.
  • If you are going uphill try to avoid stopping until you are at the top, if you stop half way you may fiind it hard to get going again
  • If you get stuck in the snow straighten the steering wheel and clear the front wheels of as much snow as possible.  If you have any salt or grit scatter some under the front wheels, or alternatively us an old sack or rug.
  • Turn on your headlights so that you are easily seen, even if it isn’t dark
  • Make sure that all of your windows and windscreen are clear of snow and ice before setting off
  • Wear dry shoes.  Shoes covered in snow may slip on your pedals
  • If possible just stay at home and enjoy the nice view out of your window
